Pilots

As with Aero Legends, you’ll be flying with the elite. Our pilots are some of the very best in the world having flown with the Red Arrows, as RAF fast jet pilots and Military instructors.

Jet Legends is led by Sean Chiddention, a previous member of the Red Arrows, Jaguar Pilot and Officer Commanding Central Flying School Examining Wing. In the Red Arrows Sean flew as numbers 2, 7 and 6, completing final year as Leader of the Synchro Pair and flew a total of 343 public displays.

Joining Sean is Charlie Brown, a familiar face from Aero Legends. As well as some 2000 hours in Spitfires, Charlie brings with him extensive Jet, Instructional and passenger flying experience amassed from 39 years with the Royal Air Force. We pride ourselves on the calibre of our pilots, ensuring you are always in safe hands!

Location

Aero Legends operate flying experiences from our historic and newly refurbished facility, ‘The Squadron’ at North Weald Airfield

North Weald Airfield was an important fighter station during the First and Second World War, specifically the Battle of Britain when it was known as the RAF Station RAF North Weald. North Weald Airfield was established in the summer of 1916 during the First World War by the Royal Flying Corps which later became Royal Air Force. During the interwar period, the RAF built large hangars and accommodation for the RAF personnel. North Weald Airfield played an important part in the air defence strategy for the United Kingdom during the Second World War.

Initially Hawker Hurricanes were deployed at the airfield, alongside Bristol Blenheim night fighters. The Hurricanes from North Weald saw action over the beaches of Dunkirk and played a key role in the Battle of Britain. In 1940, two American Eagle Squadrons moved into North Weald supplied with Spitfires. A couple of years later, Norwegian squadrons were reassigned to the airfield.

Following the war, jet fighter squadrons were based at North Weald. The sight of Gloster Meteors and de Havilland Vampire fighters in the west Essex skies was commonplace from 1949. The last front line combat unit, No. 111 Squadron RAF flying Hawker Hunters, the famous Black Arrows of 22 loop formation fame, left North Weald in 1958. North Weald Airfield now offers our passengers year round flying capability from its two long Tarmac runways, iconic original World War Two infrastructure and spectacular views over London immediately after take off.
